Welcome to my new blog, Travels By Deborah! While accompanying my parents on a mid-week getaway last week, an idea for a new venture burst forth. There I was lounging in my hotel room, sipping a cup of morning coffee and gazing out over a wonderfully expansive view of Lake Okanagan, when inspiration struck. For the past couple of months or so, I've been thinking and wondering, and wondering and thinking, how to continue being part of the tourism industry. For years, decades in fact, I was the front line of information for various river rafting outfits in British Columbia, including my own family's once highly successful outfit in Squamish. If an interested guest wanted to learn more about the fine art of river travel, then I was typically the person who answered all their questions, dazzled them with the details and inspired them with my sheer enthusiasm and passion for the experience. To be clear, I absolutely loved doing what I did! It was the best job in the world. And, I was pretty darned good at it, too (who doesn't like to chat and laugh about having fun?). But now it's time for a slightly different approach. I do want to remain in the tourism industry, but in a different capacity, coming at it from a new angle. Enter now the eureka of an idea I had back in the hotel room. Why not combine my love for discovering new places with my love of writing? In a new blog, I could share and describe where I go and what I experience. Not only will such a venture inspire me to be out and about, but it will also provide a platform for the kind of writing that I love best. There's nothing like a light, bright, fun description of somewhere that someone has visited. And, for the win, I can take along my handy-dandy camera to capture plenty of lovely images, too! So, in addition to my more personal blog, Thoughts By Deborah, I officially launch myself into the world of travel writing with Travels By Deborah. Let's see, together, where in the world this new venture will take me! Images by Deborah L. Wade
